An Introduction to Traditional Japanese Music
- Scenes from Literary Classics -Finished.

Lecture and performance with selected pieces for "Classics Day"

November 1st is the "Classics Day" to commemorate this day. This concert introduces a variety of traditional Japanese music based on stories from classical literature pieces.
A lecture by Akiko Baba, a Tanka poet and literary critic, will precede the performances, and she will also talk about how the music pieces are related to the famous Japanese stories such as the Tale of Heike (Heike Monogatari) or the Tale of Genji (Genji Monogatari) which were written almost 1,000 years ago.
Enjoy the traditional songs that describe the dramatic scenes and emotional subtleties of the characters accompanied by string instruments such as Shamisen, Koto and Biwa!
There will be a chance for the audience to touch and play the Shamisen, Koto and Kotsuzumi (hand drum) in the workshops held in the foyer before the show.
