At the Edo-Tokyo Museum, where the charms of Edo and Tokyo cultures are exhibited, visitors can listen, play and find out about the attraction of traditional Japanese music at this two-day event.
The performances at the Hall “Close Look at Traditional Japanese Music” will include “All about Kabuki Music” (on August 20) and “All about Shamisen and Koto” (on August 21). In the performances, the audience can listen to masterpieces from “kabuki dramas” and masterpieces of “shamisen and koto.” Various interesting features of traditional Japanese music that people do not normally have a chance to see will be exhibited at the have-a-go booth and through the demonstrations on how to make and play the instruments. At the Exhibition area, visitors can enjoy informal talks and “Traditional Japanese Music Mini-Live Performances” as well as “Nagashi” style performances of the Shinnai melody and shakuhachi in front of Nakamura-za (an admission ticket for the Exhibition area is required).
